yeah

so

caitlin moran legitmately just told me that she could not give a shit about the representation of WOC. SHE JUST SAID THOSE EXACT WORDS. as one of the most prominent feminists in the UK today, her particular brand of white middle class feminism is THE FUCKING PITS AND I HATE HER. please excuse my rage but CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS.

her book is called ‘how to be a woman’. HOW TO BE A FUCKING WOMAN.

can i not be a woman if i think representation of WOC in modern media is really important? more important than the representation of white women?

fuckkkkk her

ugh!

in which caitlin moran reaffirms her status as an arsehole

This poster was posted by 40 Days for Life, a pro-life organization, on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Several Native American students took mobile pictures of the poster and posted them to their Facebook accounts in complete outrage.  Dr. Tiffany Lee, a professor within the Native American Studies department at the University of New Mexico, emailed several scholars and students at the UNM campus to share her outrage.  Several KIVA Club members, the Native American student organization on campus, shared their comments and will put the issue on their next meeting’s agenda.  The poster seems to have been posted by the organization’s Albuquerque chapter, which holds monthly prayers at the local Planned Parenthood.  Several students have commented on the Albuquerque chapter’s Facebook wall but each comment have been deleted.  The Native American students on campus are organizing for a ban of the organization from the campus and a letter drafted to be sent to the university’s student life office, the Albuquerque chapter, and the Daily Lobo.  Native American Students from KIVA Club, Dine of UNM and the Native American Indigenous Research Group have all shared their feelings about the racist and demeaning poster. I am writing to ask that you contact the Albuquerque chapter to share your outrage as well.  This information was taken from the Albuquerque’s chapter website:

Victoria Foyt has commented that there has been a  lack of racial commentary” for her book “Save the Pearls”. I am taking it to mean that no one has inspected the book from a racial/racism perspective. Someone forward her this post by Dion Beary, ‘Save the Pearls”, which is quiet excellent. Maybe this way she would learn something. Here are is a little excerpt:

To put it lightly, this book is problematic, but to put it more accurately, this book is catastrophically misguided. It doesn’t take much effort to unpack the racial implications of this one. You don’t need to look any further than Foyt’s own summary of the novel. The protagonist, Eden Newman (the name Eden here obviously is meant to signify purity), lives in a world where dark-skinned people are the dominate members of society. They’re known as Coals. I can’t imagine why the ruling class of the world would choose to name themselves after something so dirty. Oh wait. It’s probably because Victoria Foyt is a racist. Eden

Newman has the unfortunate luck to have been born blonde-haired and blue-eyed. These people are known as Pearls. Again, the ruling class of society inexplicably gives a better name to the supposed underclass. Wow, it’s almost as if white people are still the dominate class, even in a fantasy novel based on the premise that they’re oppressed. In this post-apocalyptic world, those with darker-skin are more valued because they’re better equipped to handle the intense heat of the planet. Therefore, Pearls are considered weak, ugly, and have the lowest chance to find a good mate. However, choosing to defy the logic of her own novel, Foyt writes that mixed-race children, even though they can survive the heat better, are still ridiculed in a similar fashion to the Pearls. Why? Who the fuck knows?

My favorite part is how the Uni-Gov, the Big Black Brother of Foyt’s novel, has a law that says the Pearls are only allowed to go outside at night, and only if they’re wearing heavy layers of makeup to darken their skin. That’s right: black face features prominently in this totally not racist novel. Foyt writes that even if Pearls follow all the oppressive rules created for them, they’re still considered lucky to survive to their 40′s. You know, kind of like black men such as Troy Davis and Trayvon Martin.

"Ethnic is a word that doesn’t exist in my vocabulary. In Hollywood, you hear things like, “Oh, they loved you but they want to go more traditional.” That’s the new N word. So when [someone says] I look “dark,” I say, “Dark compared to whom? This is just my skin."

Tiger Beatdown › Obstructed Justice: The Death of Trayvon Martin

On February 26th a young black man named Trayvon Martin left his father’s fiancee’s home in the Twin Lakes gated community in Orlando to buy some candy for his brother. On his way back he noticed he was being followed. George Zimmerman, the development’s neighborhood watch captain, called the police at 7:15 pm on a non-emergency number to report a “suspicious person,” allegedly made a comment about Martin’s race, and then ignored orders not to pursue him. When Martin confronted the man who was chasing him, armed with a pack of Skittles and a can of iced tea, the man shot him in the chest, claiming it was self-defense.

This is disgusting. Click through to read full article, sign the petition, and contact the police department responsible for investigating.

Claiming that “abortion is the leading cause of death in the black community.” The memo (PDF) was circulated by Republicans on the House judiciary committee on Monday in advance of Tuesday’s markup of Rep. Trent Franks’ (R-Ariz.) Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act.

Franks’ bill, which is also known as H.R. 3514, didn’t make it out of committee when it was introduced in the last Congress. But the fact that it’s now receiving a markup—a key step on the way to a floor vote—and that 78 cosponsors have signed on suggests that it could proceed to a vote of the full House before November’s elections. In addition to banning abortions based on the race or gender of the fetus, H.R. 3514 would give a woman’s family members the ability to sue abortion providers if they believed an abortion was obtained based on race or sex. Critics warn that it would be next to impossible to prove that an abortion was obtained on the basis of race or gender and fear the provision could lead to nuisance suits against abortion providers by family members who are opposed to abortion on principle.
